Newspaper project, 2010

Fay Nicolson has invited a diverse array of professionals to visit the Region of Murcia and respond to aspects of this environment. These responses appear weekly in a series of pages in La Verdad newspaper. This project aims to re-examine notions of the local, familiar and everyday, in relation to global perspectives and in the context of the printed mass media. Featuring work by Mark Ashurst, Rasheed Araeen, Katerina Gregos, John M. Kennedy, Huda Smitshuijzen and Alex Vesudevan.

Fay Nicolson investigates the definitions of mass production and artistic production; relationships between documentation, truth and history; systems of information, communication and display; and issues surrounding pedagogy and collaboration. She works across media to produce pieces that often serve to illuminate or question the frameworks that condition their own existence and value, engaging with audiences both within and beyond gallery settings. Recent projects include Expansion and Collapse -a collaborative project with Oliver Smith taking the form of a publication, installation and series of prints, The Perfect Lecture -a performance tracing the physical and conceptual boundaries of academic structures and An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism -an online collection of images and texts relating to the fields of art and journalism. Fay Nicolson also writes and teaches as an extension of her practice.
